What is the ACE-AFSCME Local 2250, AFL-CIO Scholarship Program?
We are pleased to announce the establishment of a Scholarship Program available to children of active ACE-AFSCME Local 2250 members. Under this program, two (2) $2,000.00 scholarship will be awarded annually to the winner selected from the applicants who meet the eligibility requirements. Once awarded, the scholarship will be renewed for $2,000.00 each year for a maximum of four years, provided the student remains enrolled in a full-time course of study.
A group of distinguished Prince George’s County citizens forms the Scholarship Selection Committee. This independent committee has the task of choosing the scholarship recipient.
Who is eligible for a scholarship?
Any graduating high school senior who intends to enroll in a full-time accredited college or university, junior college, or trade school who is a daughter or son of an active ACE-AFSCME Local 2250 member or whose legal guardian or financially responsible grandparent is an active ACE-AFSCME Local 2250 member is eligible to apply for a scholarship. The scholarship may be used for any field of study
How does an eligible student apply?
To apply for the Michael W. Mooney and James A. Shearer Scholarship Fund, an eligible student must do the following:
- Fill out and send in the “Michael W. Mooney and James A. Shearer Scholarship Fund of ACE-AFSCME Local 2250, AFL-CIO Official Application Form”;
- Write an essay, not to exceed 1,000 words, on the subject: “What ACE-AFSCME Local 2250 Has Meant to Our Family”;
- Have the high school complete and send in the “ACE-AFSCME Local 2250, AFL-CIOMichael W. Mooney and James A. Shearer Scholarship Fund High School Report”;
- Submit a high school transcript;
- Provide information regarding an eligible ACE-AFSCME Local 2250 member.

What is the deadline for applications?
Completed applications from high school seniors must be postmarked no later than June 12th . Applications postmarked after June 12th will not be accepted
When will the selection be made?
The Scholarship Selection Committee will thoroughly examine all the application materials submitted by each scholarship applicant.
Basing its decision on the entire record of each applicant, the selection committee will then choose the scholarship recipient and announce the winner on or before August 8th. The applicant will be notified in writing of the outcome of the selection process.
